A fun post-script to feature on Watts and Young

My follow-up story made the front of today’s Los Angeles Times sports section

For those of you who enjoyed reading my feature on the journeys of Los Angeles City Section alums Quincy Watts and Kevin Young winning gold at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, I wrote an updated version of the piece that appears on the Los Angeles Times website this morning.

If you happen to live in the Los Angeles area, the story is also appearing in the print edition of today's paper.

This shortened follow-up version of the anniversary story grew out of my relationships at the Times – where I worked for nearly 20 years – and from conversations with Young, who told me about a surprise party his wife threw for him to commemorate the 30-year anniversary of their thrilling victories.

The party drew Young and Watts back together for the first time in many years, and it gathered several other track greats to reminisce and celebrate. Check out the story.

It was fun this morning to see my byline in the Los Angeles Times print edition again. I worked in the sports department for 19 years and wrote here about the decision to leave my dream job when my children were young.
